Schagen is close to the sea. The coast is only a ten-minute drive from the center of Schagen. By bike it takes a little longer, but the bike ride is worth it. After half an hour of cycling along vast meadows and, in spring, right through the tulip fields and the sea is in sight. Schagen is also located in a bulb area; especially in spring this is a good place to spot the world famous tulip fields.
Fun to visit during a multi-day stay are the surrounding picturesque villages, coastal towns Petten, Callantsoog, Sint Maartenszee or Groote Keeten. A little further away (30 to 40 car minutes) are Zuiderzee towns like Hoorn and Medemblik worth visiting. Just like marine town Den Helder and cheese town Alkmaar.
