Callantsoog

Callantsoog is known as one of the oldest and most beautiful seaside resorts in our country. When you are past the high dunes, you see the beautiful, wide sandy beach. The Blue Flag flies here, which stands for a clean and safe beach. In summer, the beautiful white beach awaits you invitingly. It is nice to relax on the beach of Callantsoog. At one of the many beach pavilions you can enjoy lunch or get an ice cream. A number of beach pavilions are open all year round, so you can warm up there in the autumn after a fresh walk on the beach.

Behind the row of dunes, just south of the coastal town of Callantsoog lies the nature reserve "Het Zwanenwater." The landscape, a dune area of 600 hectares, consists of dunes, plains, marsh, pine forest and two, vegetation-lined lakes, the two largest natural dune lakes in Western Europe. From June the orchids bloom by the thousands, a beautiful sight. The Vereniging Natuurmonumenten in the Netherlands manages the area. Through a walking route, of 2 or 4½ km, the visitor gets a picture of the landscape and the diversity of plants and birds.Dogs are not allowed. Members of Natuurmonumenten have free access. Non-members pay €3.00 at the entrance (vending machine). Children up to 12 years of age are free.
