Waarland

Waarland means lowland. For a piece of unadulterated polder romance, you've come to the right place. The Waarland polder, which for a long time consisted of several small islands and lakes, was reclaimed in 1557 with the help of one of the first water mills. Today in Waarland you can still find two mills: the Slootgaardmolen (1590) and the Poldermolen Waarland (1571). Green lovers should certainly not neglect the nature reserves De Boomerwaal and De Drasse Dijkvoet!

But what makes Waarland absolutely unique is the Vlindorado: the largest butterfly garden in Europe. Walk through a tropical rainforest with its exotic butterflies in many species, colors and sizes, such as the sensational blue Morpho from Central America. An experience for young and old alike.

Tip: Every year Waarland hosts the Badpop festival: a must-hear for music lovers!
